Things I Don't Get: Food Blogging

Why do I care what you ate for breakfast? Or how beautiful your pancakes are? Or what you used to glue together your Holiday Gingerbread House?

People taking pictures of their food before they eat it... Nope, don't get it. I'm a firm believer in finding the aesthetic joy in places unexpected, but I don't think fried eggs make great art.

Not that blogging is art.

But isn't it?

Talk amongst yourselves...

Blame it on Andy Warhol. I never thought his "art" was art. But what do I know.

I'm going to think about this some more, about what makes art art. "Arte artística" as one Spanish critic called it... Art for artists vs. Art for the plebs.

If you can blame it on Andy Warhol, then I'd say you know quite a bit about art, Nessa!

I have an appreciation for the ones tastefully done featuring recipes the writer has created. Then again, I read Bon Appetit and have worked in the food industry for a while, so for me, food done well is an art form.

However, food blogs where people photograph everything they eat 24/7 are another story. They are perfect for taking eating disorders to a whole new level. It's really scary. Especially the ones being done by teenagers.
